Augustine, otherwise known as Patient X, is the Pin-Up Girl of Hysteria, a vague and erotic feminine condition which caused much intrigue during the late 19th Century. In the world of French Cabaret, the can-can, and cafe concerts, a stranger form of theatre was gaining popularity in the lecture hall of Salpetriere, the "female inferno" of an insane asylum. Audiences gathered as the women of hysteria demonstrated their symptoms under the direction of the Father of Neurology, Dr. Charcot. Augustine, the most compelling and infamous of the "performers" rose to a celebrity status that rivaled the great French Actresses of melodrama.
